Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur being celebrated by Kyrene Corridor Jews

Members of Kyrene Corridor’s Jewish community began observing Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, at sundown Friday, Sept. 26. The observance will be followed by Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar, starting at sundown Sunday, Oct. 5. Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement, when Jews fast and pray as a form of penance.

Temple Beth Sholom will observe the holidays with the following events and programs:

Friday, Sept. 26—8 p.m. services.

Saturday, Sept. 27—9 a.m. services; 10 a.m. children’s services.

Sunday, Sept. 28—9 a.m. services; 10 a.m. children’s services.

Sunday, Oct. 5—6 p.m. Kol Nidre.

Monday, Oct. 6—Yom Kippur. 9 a.m. services; 10 a.m. children’s services; 11 a.m. Yizkor; 4:30 p.m. Mincha; 6 p.m. Ne’ilah. Break the fast meal to follow.
