Prominent area photographer recovering

Police continue to seek information about a hit-run driver whose vehicle struck and nearly killed prominent Kyrene Corridor photographer Reg Batt while he was bicycling westbound along Elliot.

Batt is the longtime owner of Portraits by Reg, the company responsible for taking thousands of high school graduation pictures and perhaps the most highly regarded of photo studios in the area.

According to police, Batt was riding on Elliot near Priest Road at 6:15 a.m. Sept. 20 when an SUV struck him from behind. Batt was thrown from the bike, suffering head trauma, a dislocated hip and multiple road abrasions. Luckily, police said, Batt was wearing a helmet.

Batt was transported to the head trauma unit of Maricopa County General Hospital, where he was reported in stable condition.

Anyone with information about a full-size, dark-color SUV with a luggage rack and damage to the front passenger-side bumper, headlight and turn signal should notify police at (480) 350-8311.
