40 dancers get a rare chance to study in NYC

Forty members of Elite Dance Force, a competitive team from Tempe-based Elite Dance and Performing Arts, have been invited to compete in New York City July 3 through 12 at the New York City Dance Alliance National Dance Convention.

The dancers will also take classes from current Broadway dancers and choreographers.

The dancers have been training since August 2004, attending regional competitions to qualify for New York. So far, six dancers have been qualified to compete their solo performances against other dancers from across the United States and Canada.

Attending the NYCDA national event caps a year of work by both students and teachers to bring dancers one-step closer to the world of professional dance, say studio officials.

NYCDA leads the industry in offering professional weekend conventions, exposing dancers to the best of the NYC dance world in a supportive, positive and fun environment.
