Kyrene Athletes of the Week
Kyrene Middle School

Nick Longanecker is on the 7th grade baseball team at Kyrene Middle School. Nick plays outfield for the team and provides exceptional defense. He is a team player and leads by his example. Nick is having a great year, with a batting average of .450

He likes playing baseball with his friends and teammates and appreciates the fact that his coaches push him to improve his game. In addition to playing baseball, Nick is an exceptional student at KMS with a 4.0 GPA. He also serves as an excellent role model to other students.

 

Lisa Helmers is a member of the KMS 8th grade girl's basketball team. Lisa is a 4.0 student and Student Council President. In that role, Lisa provides great leadership and a voice for all KMS students. Recently Lisa participated in the Mayor's Youth Advisory Town Hall program, where she joined other Tempe teens in a roundtable discussion on stereotyping and race relations.

On the basketball court, Lisa leads by example. She is a team player and a great role model for students and other athletes. Lisa also plays on the Arizona Elite basketball team, averaging 22 points per game. Lisa is looking forward to next year, when she hopes to be part of the Corona Aztec basketball program.
