Forum to address special needs

Families with a child or adult who has a mental or physical disability often face difficulties while participating in community activities. Attending religious services or schools, summer camps or youth groups in a synagogue or Jewish community center may seem to present intimidating challenges.

In an effort to address those “special needs” Temple Emanuel, 5801 S. Rural Rd., will host an East Valley Open Forum at 11 a.m. on April 14. Guest speaker Becca Hornstein is the executive director of the Metro Phoenix Council for Jews with Special Needs, an agency that has provided programs and services since 1985. She will present information about the assistance that is available to children and adults who have physical, developmental, emotional or learning disabilities and how they can be successfully included in existing activities of the Jewish community.
