Getting to know your city

Do you want to have a voice in the future of your city? Have you often wondered what happens once you've hung up the phone after placing a call to a city department with a suggestion or comment?

These questions and others are being answered through the Chandler City Services Academy.

The city is seeking residents for the program's fourth course.

"With increased understanding and cooperation, Chandler's residents and city departments together can achieve realistic solutions to quality of life issues in the community," Mayor Boyd Dunn said.

The sessions will deal with topics such as neighborhood revitalization, crime prevention, water resources and conservation, traffic, land use, education and social
services.

Initiated by the Office of Neighborhood Programs in 2000, the 11-week course increases participants' understanding of the intricacies of the city in an educational and interactive way.

Residents have the opportunity to meet with various staff members from city departments, members of boards and commissions and councilmembers to better understand the role of city government.

The Academy begins Tuesday, Aug. 19, and will run on each subsequent Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. There are no special eligibility requirements for going through the academy.

To register, or for more information, call the Office of Neighborhood Programs at (480) 782-2218.
