Meetings to explore changes in Valley Metro fees
The city of Tempe Transit Office, Tempe in Motion, will hold open houses Feb. 24 and 26 to present a proposal for restructuring Valley Metro's transit fare policy. Kyrene Corridor residents who utilize transit services are encouraged to attend and give their input. Transit fare includes cash, local and reduced bus passes, tickets, tokens and transfers.
Open houses will be held:
Thursday, Feb. 24, 6-8 p.m.--Tempe Public Library Program Room, 3500 S. Rural Road and Saturday, Feb. 26, 1-3 p.m.--Pyle Adult Recreation Center, 655 E. Southern Ave.Proposed changes include:
Reducing local one-way fare from $1.25 to $1
Reducing Rapid and Express one-way fare from $1.75 to $1.50
Reducing discount fare from $0.60 to $0.50
Reducing all-day passes from $3.60 to $2 (passes would now be sold on bus)
Eliminating tickets, tokens and transfer slips
Creating rolling three, seven and 31 day bus passesThe fare policy changes would take effect in 2006 when new fare boxes are installed on all Valley Metro buses.
