Corridor site for upscale Euro-theme center

By Tara Drach

A 21-acre, European-theme retail, office and residential complex with an array of imaginative design and features is due to begin construction in the Kyrene Corridor within the next three months.

“This type of development is unlike anything Chandler has ever seen,” says developer Scott Schirmer, whose existing projects have attracted national attention.

Biagio at Wildtree, planned for development on the northeast corner of Chandler Boulevard and Rural Road, is scheduled to break ground in July and be finished a year later.

The development, modeled after a European design, will feature 44,000 square feet of retail space, 30,000 square feet of medical office space and 200 residential apartment units.

The project, to be designed with what Schirmer describes as a European flair, is destined to bring an element of charm to the Kyrene Corridor, say observers.

“I refer to the design as Southwestern Tuscany,” said Schirmer. “Our goal is to create a positive atmosphere of real warmth where people will want to stay and shop.”

As to the difference between his new project and most traditional centers, Schirmer says the key will be in how it relates to the user.

“It’s very open, integrated and mixed. Most projects like this are very screened off; this one will be very pedestrian friendly.”

Schirmer was the developer of a Southwestern-style office complex on McClintock Road which has drawn wide acclaim.
