Chandler firefighters will be bringing back their annual holiday toy drive again this year in a community-wide effort to provide thousands of disadvantaged children with a happier holiday.
Anyone who donates a new, unwrapped toy (fire officials have requested nothing battery operated) any time from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, will receive a ride in a Chandler fire engine.
An adult must accompany children 6 years old and younger.
Collection point will be near the valet parking area outside the food court on the south side of Chandler Fashion Center.
Fire Department mascots will join in, along with Sprinkler the Clown, and city of Chandler holiday carolers will perform.
Donated toys will be delivered to Chandler CARE Center next to Galveston Elementary School for disadvantaged children who have been identified through the staff at each elementary school in the Chandler district.
“Our firefighters have a lot of fun every year giving rides to kids during the toy drive,” said Chandler Fire Chief Jeff Clark.
“We are always amazed by the generosity of our residents in supporting our efforts to share some holiday joy with Chandler children.”
Toy donations can also be dropped off in the lobby of the Fire Administration Headquarters at 151 E. Boston St. now through Dec. 15 or at any Chandler fire station.
