While it’s no secret that the City of Phoenix continues to grow and has made its mark as one of the largest in the country, what you may not know is just how quickly its surrounding cities have grown.
According to The Phoenix Business Journal, seven cities in Arizona are now atop the list of the 100 largest in the United States. Phoenix is the sixth largest city in the United States, with 1,469,471 residents as of July 1, 2011 and tops the state of Arizona.
Tucson is second in Arizona and 33 nationally with 525,796 residents, while Mesa (446,518, ranked 38 nationally) and Chandler (240,101, ranked 81 nationally) round out the top four for the state.
Tempe did not make the top 100 in the country and was ranked 145 (population of 161,719). In fact seven cities in Arizona were larger including Glendale, Scottsdale and Gilbert, which were all in the top 100 of the United States.
