Winners of the Kyrene District Spelling Bee will participate in regional competition to be held Friday, Feb. 18, at Tempe Elementary School District Office, 3205 S. Rural Road.
Kyrene students will participate with district winners from Chandler, Mesa, Tempe and surrounding private, charter and home school organizations.
Kyrene District winners so far are:
1st Place: Hannah Miao, 6th grade, Aprende Middle School, Chandler;
2nd Place: Prateek Pinisetti, 5th grade, Kyrene de las Brisas Elementary, Chandler;
3rd Place: Bobae Johnson, 6th grade, Kyrene Altadeña Middle School, Ahwatukee;
4th Place: Caleb Redshaw, 5th Grade, Kyrene del Milenio, Ahwatukee;
5th Place: Jessica Romero, 4th grade, Kyrene de la Colina, Ahwatukee.
The winning word, which Hannah provided correctly in the eighth round, was “physique.”
Winner of the regional bee will participate in the Arizona State Spelling Bee to qualify for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will take place in Washington, D.C.
